Framed by a Friend: How Dheeraj Gupta Fought Back Against a False Rape Case

Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj, Founder and Director - Ekam Nyaay Foundation with Dhiraj Gupta.

37-year-old Dheeraj Gupta, a simple and hardworking man from Vishwakarma Colony, Delhi, had never imagined that his life would be turned upside down by someone he once considered family.

In July 2023, he was falsely accused of rape.

The FIR, registered on 12th of July 2023 at the Women’s Police Station, alleged that Dheeraj had dragged a woman into a Ford Endeavour in the basement parking of Crown Interiorz Mall, Sector 35, and raped her in the month of December in 2022. To Dheeraj's astonishment this complaint came out of nowhere and hit him as a huge shock. Surprisingly Dheeraj had never even seen or met the complainant before.

As the news shook his entire family, a familiar face appeared at the police station—Mukesh Narwat, someone Dheeraj had known for years and considered a close friend. Mukesh had even attended Dheeraj’s wedding. Mukesh offered to help and asked his family to settle the matter by paying ₹50 lakhs to the complainant.

Dheeraj’s family, terrified and desperate to protect their son, handed over ₹33 lakhs to Mukesh in hopes that the case would be resolved. But despite the payment, Dheeraj was arrested.

The Turmoil - 3.5 Months Behind Bars for a Crime He Never Committed

Dheeraj spent the next 3.5 months in jail, an innocent man trapped in a terrifying system that had failed him. While he languished in prison, his wife, pregnant at the time, faced emotional trauma, social stigma, and public humiliation. His aged parents ran from one lawyer to another, trying to understand how such a baseless case could land their innocent son in jail.

After securing bail, Dheeraj was emotionally and financially devastated, but not defeated. In November 2023, he reached out to Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj, founder of Ekam Nyaay Foundation, seeking support.

Uncovering the Conspiracy: A Spa, A Racket, A Betrayal

After personally meeting Dheeraj and going through the case documents, Deepika discovered glaring contradictions in the FIR.

Extortionist - Mukesh Narwat

It was uncovered that Mukesh Narwat, the very man who took ₹33 lakhs from Dheeraj’s family, was not just a fraudster but the mastermind of an extortion racket. Mukesh ran a spa centre inside Crown Interiorz Mall, where the complainant, Pinky, was employed. This wasn’t the first time they had used this modus operandi. Together, they had trapped multiple businessmen in false rape cases through women working at Mukesh’s spa to extract huge sums of money.

The entire case against Dheeraj was fabricated—a tool for blackmail and extortion.

The Fight for Justice: 18 Months of Relentless Effort

Deepika was moved by Dheeraj’s story and outraged at the blatant misuse of law. She gave Dheeraj her word:

“I will not rest until the truth comes out and those who destroyed your life are behind bars.”

She kept that promise.

Over the next 18 months, Deepika tirelessly pursued the case. She -

  • Wrote formal complaints and letters to top authorities, including the DGP of Haryana
  • Visited the Home Minister of Haryana, Shri Anil Vij, personally requesting an SIT (Special Investigation Team) to probe the extortion racket
  • Met the Commissioner of Police, Faridabad, multiple times
  • Visited police stations repeatedly to push for action
  • Engaged media and journalists to spotlight the issue
  • Amplified the case through social media and public platforms

And her efforts finally bore fruits.

In June 2024, based on her consistent follow-ups and detailed representations, an SIT was constituted to investigate the matter.

The Truth Emerges, But Justice Remains Delayed

The findings of the SIT were damning.

  • It was established that Pinky was not even present at the Crown Interiorz Mall on the date she claimed she was raped.
  • The entire plot was hatched by Mukesh, using Pinky as the front to file the false complaint and extort money from Dheeraj's family.

Based on the SIT report, an FIR was lodged against Mukesh and Pinky in September 2024.

But justice continued to be delayed.

Despite the FIR, no further action was taken. For months, the accused continued to roam free while Dheeraj and his family waited in silence.

In May 2025, when eight months had passed with no arrests, no progress, and no accountability, Deepika once again stepped in. She personally met the Commissioner of Police, Faridabad, and apprised him of the complete inaction on a case where the accused had already been indicted by an SIT report.

The Victory Lap: First Step Towards Justice

Accused Mukesh Narwat arrested by Faridabad Police

On 2 July 2025, nearly two years after the false FIR was filed, Mukesh Narwat was finally arrested. It was a moment of emotional release and long-awaited justice for Dheeraj and his family, after countless sleepless nights, public humiliation, and emotional breakdowns.

Pinky remains absconding.

This is Simply More Than Just One Man’s Story

Dheeraj’s story is not just about one man. It represents a dangerous trend, where laws meant to protect are weaponized by criminals for personal gain. It reveals how extortion rackets are operating in plain sight, misusing sensitive laws to destroy innocent lives.

His case is a wake-up call for law enforcement and lawmakers.

Our Commitment at Ekam Nyaay

At Ekam Nyaay Foundation, we are committed to ensuring that no innocent man stands alone. The justice system must not become a tool for blackmail or exploitation. Dheeraj’s case is a reminder of why our mission matters—to protect truth, uphold justice, and restore dignity to those falsely accused.
