Expose of the serial rape case filer Ayushi Bhatia made it to news across India. Several people approached us in the aftermaths of the case informing us about women who were filing multiple rape cases for purpose of extortion. During screening of our documentary film India's Sons in Jaipur in May 2022, couple of young men from the audience approached Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj to seek help in a similar case. They claimed to have been implicated in false rape case by the same woman. The details they shared with us were not only shocking but alarming. These men told us that the woman who has implicated them has done so with atleast 10 men.

We came to know about Bhawna Sharma

Bhawna, an engineering graduate living in Jaipur has filed 14 rape, gangrape, molestation & other criminal cases on more than 12 men across Rajasthan, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh. Several of these rape cases are on grounds of false promise to marry. Evidences show that she got married to a man in temple after similar threats but she still kept on filing rape cases alleging promise of marriage.

Bhawna's modus operandi is similar to that of other false rape case filers. She meets men through social networking sites or parties, befriends them, gets into a flying affair and then demands money after filing rape case. In a rape case filed in Gurgaon, she allegedly took 10 Lacs from the accused and then turned hostile. While acquiring the accused, the judge ordered a perjury case against her for lying.

From 2016 to 2023, Bhawna Sharma has filed at least 14 cases against multiple victims in different police stations, including a false gang rape case where she inserted a foreign object inside herself to fabricate a Nirbhaya-like scenario ( according to final report filed by Rajasthan Police in that case)

In September 2022, after meeting several men implicated by her and going through evidences in each of these cases, we began united action against her. This has been the toughest case so far in our exposure of serial rape case filers. We met DGP Rajasthan, pleaded with top cops, approached women's commission, wrote to the Chief Minister, but nothing worked. We had demanded formation of a Special Investigation Team to unearth how many cases have been filed by this woman and action against her for misusing rape laws. In 2023, when a new victim of hers approached us, we met senior police officers again and requested them to conduct proper investigation in the case. While this rape case was declared as false, an extortion case was lodged against Bhawna Sharma. She appealed this closure of case like she has done in several other cases as she is well versed with laws and how to exploit them.

We became hopeless many times but didn't lose hope. Meanwhile, she kept filing more rape cases. In 2023, after meeting many officers and encouraging her latest victim to file an FIR, she was booked on charges of extortion. But even after that, she wasn't arrested. At one point, when she learned about our action, she even tried to implicate our founder, Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj, by adding her name to a false case.

Finally, the Bar Association of Jaipur intervened and filed a complaint with the Commissioner of Police in May 2024 after she booked two advocates in rape cases.

Finally Bhawna Sharma got arrested in May 2024.

Session court denied her bail after her arrest, observing that she had filed 14 cases of rape/molestation and most of them were found false. The court said " Such incidents are increasing in society, and if bail is granted, it would send a wrong message to society "

Many people lost their jobs, had their entire career in destroyed because of this serial rape case accuser Bhawna Sharma

We publicly released an audio between her and her advocate where she is talking about demanding atleast 15-20 Lacs in a rape case from the man she falsely implicated.

As of September 2024, Bhawna Sharma is still in Jail. We hope she will be brought to justice for destroying so many lives.
